Tell us a bit about yourself

  • I grew up with 3 brothers so played sport whenever I had free time.
  • I decided I wanted to be an Olympian at age 9.
  • I played all sports but realised I had a talent for long distance running when I did my school cross country.
  • I achieved my goal of going to the Olympics 3 times (2000, 2004, 2008) in the 1500 metres running.
  • I won a silver medal at the Commonwealth Games.
  • I am the fastest Australian woman in history over 1500 metres.

Why do you like to be fit and healthy?

I feel really happy and more energetic when I am fit and healthy.

What is the best advice you have ever been given?

Believe in yourself. If you don't believe you can do something you won't! You have to work hard and keep practicing.

What has been your biggest challenge and how did you overcome it?

My mind. I used to not believe I was good enough, that others were better and I feared failure. I overcame this by chatting to family and my coaches who asked me the question.."why not you, why can't it be you who is the best". I started to believe this & never looked back.

What is your best tip for motivation, health & fitness?

Pick out a fitness goal - a challenge and set yourself a date. It could be a fun run or a triathlon, etc. Having something to work towards to motivate you to get out there and do some training and make great food choices

Who do you look up to as a Role Model and why?

I used to look up to Cathy Freeman when I was an athlete. I saw how hard she trained, how disciplined she was and how she stood on the start line at the Sydney Olympics, with the weight of Australia on her shoulders & won!
